Remembrance Festival 2014

Voices In Harmony participated in the Remembrance Festival which took place at Cradley Heath Salvation Army on Saturday 8 November 2014.

8nov14dThe Remembrance Festival, which has now become an established event for both Voices In Harmony and Cradley Heath Salvation Army, was a sell-out event attended by a number of dignitaries including James Morris MP for Halesowen and Rowley Regis, Councillor Derek Rowley Mayor of Sandwell MBC and other Sandwell MBC Councillors. A number of local organisations including The Royal British Legion were represented. David Bishop-Rowe led the Festival Band who together with Voices In Harmony provided a musical beginning to the evening, leading into a Remembrance Service led by Captain Liz Hancock from Cradley Heath Salvation Army.

The music performed included:

  • ‘1914 March’, a band piece which included songs of the period, in which the audience were invited to sing-along.
  • ‘Wherever You Are’, made famous by the Military Wives choir and performed by Voices In Harmony at most of their concerts in 2014 as a tribute to troops who lost their lives or suffered injury in World War One.
  • The premiere of ‘Remembrance’, a moving composition by David Bishop-Rowe which, using imagery and poetry together with brass band and choral music, highlights the plight of our troops in World War One.

Many positive comments have been received including:

  • I thought it was a brilliant night.
  • I thought it was really moving and I loved the military wives song.
  • It was the best one so far.
  • The performance of 'Remembrance’ was wonderful and extremely moving.
